Over 500 members of SAF in 13 peacekeeping operations

Representatives of the Serbian National Assembly confirmed tonight a total of 16 international agreements and contracts, including the Decision on the use and participation of Serbian Army personnel in UN peacekeeping operation in the Central African Republic and European Union military operation in the Central African Republic in 2014. This decision enters into force on the day of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic said that the Serbian peacekeeping troops are absolutely safe in the UN and EU missions, stressing that they will be sent to the west part of the Central African Republic where there are no combat actions. “Security is at a high level”, he told the MPs.

Earlier, at the meeting of the Serbian parliament's Defense and Internal Affairs Committee, Minister said that over 500 members of the Armed Forces of Serbia will participate in 13 UN and EU-mandated peacekeeping missions in 2014.

Gasic specified that a total of 67 SAF troops and two staff officers from the medical unit will take part in the UN-mandated peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic this year. SAF troops will also participate in the EU-led military operation in the Central African Republic, and their safety is at a high level in both missions, Minister added.

MPs also confirmed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Data, the same agreement with the Government of Macedonia and the Czech Republic, and the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the United States of America concerning security measures for the protection of classified military data.

Agreements have also been confirmed on trade and economic cooperation between Serbia and Tunisia, between Serbia and Italy on mutual regulation of international road transportation of passengers and goods, on cooperation between the Government of Serbia and the Government of Montenegro in the context of EU accession.
