Maribor in the rhythm of Manjifiko and "Binicki"

Over 3,000 people danced last night at Leon Stukelj Hall in Maribor to the rhythm of Robert Pesut – Manjifiko’s music and the Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binicki”.

Two hours before the concert, it was clear that the constant rain wouldn’t derail the musical spectacle, whose overture was held the previous night in Koper, when dozens of people came in front of the Hall, with umbrellas and raincoats, and patiently waited in lines for entrance tickets.

The evergreen music was thus well-received, so the full Hall sang in unison the most well-known numbers from “Montevideo” and those from the Pesut’s creative opus. Introducing the Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binicki”, he, saluted with ovations, stated that “the Serbian military orchestra comes in peace”.

With their inspirational playing, our musicians contributed to the great atmosphere that kept growing from one number to another, and culminated during the fast-paced “dvojke” – Pesut’s specialty, so the audience danced and sang like at a happening of a sort.

The audience of all generations didn’t hide their thrill because of the concert, stressing the positive energy and freshness of Balkan music that energizes the people from these areas. It was confirmed by Vladimir Pocuc, who, as he pointed out, enjoyed with his wife in the music from some better times.

- I am an old generation, I served in the Yugoslav People’s Army and the music I enjoyed in today brings me back to the good times when we socialized more and lived happier and far more relaxed lives.

Major Igor Mitrovic, conductor of the Serbian military orchestra, thought that it was good in Koper, but that it was even better in Maribor.

- The impressions are astonishing; we have performed together for a long time and we can say that we have lasted successfully, and I am particularly pleased with the heartfelt applause our orchestra has received – Major Mitrovic pointed out, confirming that this sort of promotion of our military and culture is especially important in the times ahead of us.

Last night’s concert was opened by children of the “Serbian Cultural Society Maribor” with dances from the area of Uzice. Dressed in traditional clothes, they were loudly welcomed on stage.

The mini-tour of our ensemble was marked by immaculate organization and great kindness of the Slovenian hosts throughout.
