Minister Gasic and General Dikovic visited Krupanj

Ministar Gasic i general Dikovic u KrupnjuDefence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Head of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces met today with representatives of the local self-government of the Municipality of Krupanj, with whom they talked about the progress of the process of field sanitation and building homes for the affected citizens. In the further course of their visit to Krupanj, Minister Gasic and General Dikovic visited the location where new houses will be built, within the project of flood and landslide relief in that city.

According to Minister Gasic, at this morning’s session of the Government, it was mentioned that decisions are running late and that no local self-government fulfilled their part of the task, given to them by the Government’s Office for Renewal.

- This proved true in Krupanj today. Out of 341 damaged facilities, from the first to the fifth category, only 66 decisions have been issued, which confirms the Government’s and Office’s claim that it is the local self-governments that cause the hold in issuing decisions, and that, if we continue at this pace, we will certainly be late in bringing the citizens into renewed houses – Minister Gasic stressed. He expressed his concern that, at this pace, the agreement will not be fulfilled, because October 15 is very close. Minister Gasic added that it had been agreed at the today’s meeting in Krupanj that construction of 40 facilities, for which decisions had been issued, should start as soon as possible, and that decisions for all categories should be issued by Monday.

Ministar Gasic i general Dikovic u KrupnjuOtherwise, as Minister Gasic explained, although the Government provided the funds and is constantly present in Krupanj and Obrenovac, and all other places, it turns out that the Government is at fault for something the local self-governments were not able to do on their own. He also added that the authorities in Krupanj had promised for everyone’s decisions to be issued by Monday, and that the Armed Forces of Serbia would stay as long as needed, until they finish the sanitation procedure.

- What I have heard today, and, no matter how much it pleases me as the Minister of Defence, “if it hadn’t been for the Armed Forces…” and “if the Armed Forces leave, there is no living for them out there”, the SAF’s engagement in any situation is well-known – Minister Gasic pointed out.

President of the Municipality of Krupanj Rade Grujic then pointed out that there had been talks today about speeding up the process of issuing decisions, although there are some realistic issues, mostly of proprietary and legal nature.

- We will try with all our strength to compensate for this and adhere to the deadline, but it is crucial that we get support from graduated legal experts – Grujic stated, adding that 5 hired legal experts cannot manage such great amount of work, although they constantly work on the cases.

Minister Gasic and General Dikovic also visited today the location of the municipality ground where new objects are scheduled to be constructed on 18 sites.
