Meeting of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the US National Guard Bureau



Састанак министра одбране са шефом Бироа Националне Гарде САДDefence Minister Bratislav Gasic talked to Chief of the US National Guard Bureau General Frank Grass. Topic of the talks was an overview of the present cooperation, and the meeting was also attended by Head of the General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, US Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby and Commander of the Ohio National Guard Major General Deborah Ashenhurst.

Minister Gasic pointed out his satisfaction with the present bilateral military cooperation with the US, stressing that it is still the most advanced and best part of the overall bilateral relations between the two countries. He thanked the people and the Government of the US for their help and support during the disastrous floods that had hit Serbia.

General Grass agreed with Minister Gasic that the bilateral military cooperation is at a high level, and he announced a visit from the US Navy Secretary Ray Mabus to Serbia in the beginning of the next month.

Gasic and Grass emphasized that projects like the Humanitarian Assistance bear great importance for establishing friendly relations between Serbia and the United States. Defence Minister suggested initiating a similar project in one of the municipalities affected by the disastrous floods.

Састанак министра одбране са шефом Бироа Националне Гарде САДThe Ministry, as Minister Gasic said, will continue developing and advancing the defence cooperation with the US Armed Forces, with the main focus on activities under the jurisdiction of the Serbian General Staff. This primarily includes a large number of practical content of cooperation, in the form of joint exercises and unit training, aiming to constantly enhance operative and functional capabilities of the Armed Forces of Serbia.

Moreover, Minister Gasic thanked the US side for their expert and financial support to the development of the “jug” base, pointing out that, from 2015, it should start working in full capacity.
