Meeting of the Minister of Defence and the Ambassador of France
Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and the Ambassador of France in Belgrade Francois-Xavier Deniau discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of defence. Minister Gasic and Ambassador Deniau pointed out that the relation between the two countries has been traditionally good and friendly. France strives towards intensifying of cooperation with the countries of the West Balkan and supports the process of the European integrations of our country.
Gasic thanked France for their support and help and deployment of their Special Units during the disastrous floods in Serbia. France is the leader of the initiative for the Donation Conference to be held in Brussels, on July 16, for collecting aid for states that have been affected by the floods.
In the year of marking the centenary of the beginning of the First World War, on the Day of the National Holiday of the Republic of France – July 14, three members of the Serbian Guard will attend the Paris Parade as a part of the Serbian official delegation, led by the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin.One of the conclusions made at the meeting is that cooperation in the field of defence is intensive, and its main domains are military-educational cooperation, joint training and participation in multinational operations under the auspices of the European Union and military-economic and scientific-technical cooperation. Gasic and Deniau pointed out the importance of continuing cooperation in multinational operations of the EU. The most important part of this cooperation is deployment of teams of the Armed Forces of Serbia for protection of the ships in the EU ATALANTA operation from December, 2013 to May 2014, and another team of the Armed Forces of Serbia is expected to participate in this operation by the end of the year.
Minister Gasic invited Minister of Defence Jean-Yves Le Drian to visit Serbia by the end of the year.
