Meeting of the Defence Minister and the Ambassador of Greece

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and the Ambassador of Greece Konstantinos Ikonomidis spoke about improving cooperation between the two states in the field of defence.

In the course of the traditionally good cooperation between Serbia and Greece, military cooperation has primarily been developed through education, joint Special Forces training and training of officers for deployment in multinational operations. Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2014 was signed in late May this year, and Minister Gasic pointed out that “our mutual task should be to discover possibilities for improving cooperation in domains of mutual interest, based on a realistic and rational foundation”.

First and foremost, this concerns cooperation within the European Union, where Serbia is committed to active participation in EU crisis management operations, improving cooperation within frames of Common Security and Defence Policy and for development of joint projects with the European Defence Agency.

Minister Gasic thanked Ambassador Ikonomidis for Greece’s continuous support in achieving strategic goals of Serbian foreign policy – EU membership, preserving territorial integrity and promoting regional cooperation.
