"Stanislav Binickи" Art Ensemble at the ceremony of marking the centenary of the Great War in Anticgrad



Obelezavanje sto godina od pocetka Prvog svetskog rata - Otvaranje Andric gradaState officials of the Republic of Serbia and of the Republika Srpska, and many invited guests attended today, on Vidovdan, ceremonies in Andricgrad on the occasion of marking the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.

The official opening of Andricgrad, after three years of construction, was conducted with the sounds of the Nis Military Orchestra, and after the official ceremony, speeches were given by director and Professor Emir Kusturica, Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and President of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.

After the official address, the Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia “Stanislav Binicki” held a concert at the Petar II Petrovic Njegos Town Square. “Binicki” started the program with the “March on the Drina” composition, conducted by Head of the Ensemble Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Stojiljkovic, and then, with Pavle Medakovic as the conductor, the Ensemble performed “Vostani Serbie”, “Vidovdan”, “Serbian Waltz”, “Bojarka – Carevac”, “Mars Vojvode Stepe”, “Tobdzijsko Kolo”, “Kraljevo Kolo” and other pieces. Today’s ceremony was also attended by the Defence Ministry State Secretary Zoran Djordjevic.

After the vastly visited concert, the Ensemble’s conductor stated that the today’s performance was a great honor and a great thrill for everyone.

Obelezavanje sto godina od pocetka Prvog svetskog rata - Otvaranje Andric grada- The ambiance is magnificent; Andricgrad is something completely new for all of us. Andric, our great Nobel Prize winner, has got a living monument that should permanently stay in our memory. It pleases me to know that the town will have a great life. For us, as an orchestra, it was a great pleasure to play today. The audience’s reaction supported us in many compositions, which always gives us musicians an extra incentive to play even better – Medakovic said.

In the scope of Vidovdan ceremonies, Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, along with pontiffs, monks and priests of the Serbian Orthodox Church, served earlier today the Holy Liturgy and sanctified the Church of Saint Prince Lazar and Kosovo Martyrs.

At noon, a rich cultural art program was organized, and the visitors had the opportunity to enjoy concerts, exhibitions, film projections and book promotions. The program was conducted according to the ideas of Emir Kusturica.

A special event at the today’s festivity in Andricgrad was the reveal of the grand mosaic by the Magister of Art Bisenija Terescenko placed on the wall of the “Doli Bel” movie theater, depicting Gavrilo Princip and eight young Bosnians.
