State Secretary Djordjevic received the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO



Drzavni sekretar Djordjevic priio Parlamentarnu delegaciju NATOState Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic met today with members of the delegation of the Sub-Committee on Transatlantic Defence and Security Co-operation of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO headed by Sverre Myrli, the representative of Norway.

On this occasion, State Secretary Djordjevic pointed out that today’s visit was an extraordinary opportunity to once again show the firm commitment of the Serbian Government to continuing and constantly upgrading cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance.

- This cooperation has been successfully and intensively developed for the last eleven years through mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace Program, which marks 20 years since its creation this year. The defence system of the Republic of Serbia is fully susceptible to civilian, democratic and Drzavni sekretar Djordjevic priio Parlamentarnu delegaciju NATOparliamentarian control and open to the greatest extent for the public and institutions of the civilian society with which it cooperates during a large number of activities – State Secretary Djordjevic stressed, bringing attention to the rounded off legislative regulation in the field of defence, and adding that a public debate has been initiated on suggested changes and amendments of the Law on Defence and Law on the Armed Forces of Serbia, as well as the Defence Strategy of the Republic of Serbia for the period ending in 2020.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Myrli stressed that the Balkan region is highly important for the NATO Parliament Assembly, and for Europe and the transatlantic cooperation.

- For many years, Serbia has cooperated with NATO and we have fostered close relations between our Assembly and the National Assembly of Serbia. I am very pleased with what I have heard from State Secretary Djordjevic and we will continue good cooperation and relations with your country – Myrli stated.

In the course of today’s meeting, NATO Parliament Assembly officials had the opportunity to talk to representatives of the Ministry of Defence.
