Marking anniversary of the death of Prince Mihajlo

At the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the 146th anniversary of the death of Prince Mihajlo, one of most significant rulers in newer history of Serba, has been held today. The state delegation was headed by Dragan Popovic, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy.

Wreaths were laid and state and military honors were paid by the sarcophagi of Prince Mihajlo.

Popovic said that Prince Mihajlo was one of the first great reformers of Serbia and a man who, at that time, comprehended where Serbia was and then headed it to the right direction.

Prior to the beginning of the state ceremony, a religious rite was held by the Head of the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel archpriest Petar Lukic.

Moreover, wreaths were laid by the delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Serbia, as well as by representatives of non-governmental organizations committed to fostering the traditions of Serbian liberation wars.

Prince Mihajlo Obrenovic ruled Serbia in two turns, 1839 to 1842 and 1860 to 1868, and he was assassinated in Topcider, on June 11 according to the Julian calendar or on May 29 1868 according to the Gregorian calendar.
