Improving cooperation in the field of defence with the Republic of Slovenia



In the course of regular planned activities, on June 9, 2014, a meeting was held with the purpose of analyzing and perceiving cooperation in the field of defence between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Slovenia in the previous period, as well as reaching final adjustments and signing of the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2014.

Both ends expressed contentment with the level of achieved cooperation in the field of defence and the tendency of further qualitative improvement. The cooperation is characterized by regular high-level meetings which have significantly contributed to intensifying cooperation in the field of defence, and most of suggestions and agreements made during these meetings have been made official in the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan.

Appreciation has been conveyed to the Republic of Slovenia for their selfless help and support during our battle against floods that had hit our country, as well as for founding the Workgroup for coordinating help for Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be in charge of providing professional and technical aid in the state’s recovery.

Gratitude has also been expressed to the Republic of Slovenia for their support to the Republic of Serbia on our path of European integrations and for the deployment of members of Armed Forces of the Republic of Slovenia in KFOR on contributing to stability and achieving lasting peace.

Activities planned for 2014 enable the continuation of cooperation in the fields of exchanging practices in forming noncommissioned officer corps, cooperation between military archives, military educational institutions and in the field of budgeting and financing, as well as establishing cooperation in the field of special units training.

Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia has expressed their interest in exchanging practices in the field of security and defence aspects of Serbia’s EU accession, participation in the scope of Common Security and Defence Policy and the European Defence Agency.

Considering the ending of mandate of the Defence Attaché of the Republic of Slovenia in Belgrade, Colonel Konjikovac thanked Colonel Tunja for his professional participation and personal contribution to the improvement of the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, especially of the cooperation in the field of defence.

At the end of the meeting, the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan between the two ministries for 2014 has been signed.
