Participants of the Third Pan-European Congress of Military medicine visit Obrenovac
Participants of the 3rd Pan European Congress of Military Medicine in Belgrade paid a visit today to the deployable medical treatment facility near the elementary school "Jefimija", as well as to the parts of the city of Obrenovac befallen by recent floods.
On this occasion, Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Zoran Popovic, Head of the Military Health Department of the Ministry of Defence said that the armed forces have set up two deployable medical treatment facilities in Obrenovac and sent its teams to accommodate the population in all respects, at the request of the Crisis Response Headquarters of Obrenovac and the Commander Lieutenant-General Aleksandar Zivkovic.
- We are the people who have been practicing for years for such situations, and our colleagues from 29 countries today, had a sad opportunity to see on the spot what we have we worked on theoretically. We are familiar with this matter, therefore we put our resources at disposal, and I think that people believe that they could be cared for both in the field of internal medicine and surgery, as well as in the field of preventive medicine with the aim of preventing any epidemics - General Popovic stressed out.
According to Slobodan Solevic, a representative of the city emergency response team, this is an example of how joint action and synchronization of all civilian and military capabilities citizens of Obrenovac can receive assistance on the spot. It is, as he pointed out, a good message to the people that the military is always with them.
One of the Congress participants, Major General Jeremy Rowan, Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Health) of the British Army, after visiting the deployable medical treatment facility emphasized that the Serbian Armed Forces in this place fully demonstrated its capacities, and provide assistance to the population after such a huge disaster that has befallen the country.
