Assistance of the Armed Forces in the field sanitation in Obrenovac



Ministar odbrane Gasic u Obrenovcu - Izvor: Uprava za odnose sa javnoscu Ministarstva odbrane20:57 - Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence and are now engaged in cleaning-up of Obrenovac streets from the accumulated garbage and bulky debris, left behind catastrophic flood. Obrenovac is divided into sectors from which the units of the Serbian Armed Forces have been using vehicles of private and state-owned enterprises for three days to rapidly remove huge amounts of trash and destroyed furniture which were taken out to the streets in the meantime. More than a thousand members of the units of the Ministry of Defence, particularly the MMA and the Army, Training Command, Air Force and Air Defence were employed, and among them the Special Brigade, First Brigade, CBRN battalion, Military Police Battalion, 250th AD missile brigade, 333rd Engineer Battalion of AF&AD ... Yesterday and today the emphasis has been placed on the removal of faecal waste which was taken with nearly 400 tanks. Supply of water tankers with drinking water was continued, and in cooperation with the Red Cross of Serbia another three points were formed to ensure more efficient water and food supply for the most affected residents. Today, as well, more than 200 trucks and construction machinery in total were employed.

At a meeting of the Crisis Response Headquarters, which was attended by Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic, after he made a tour of the most critical areas of the city in the evening, it was concluded that the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, in cooperation with local governments, members of the Gendarmerie and other state authorities, are doing everything in their power to carry out their task in the given time for Obrenovac to be largely cleaned-up during the weekend and safe for the mass return of its citizens.

12.45 - According to the Crisis Response Headquarters in Obrenovac today, 774 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and 171 civilian and 79 military vehicles and engineering machinery land were engaged in the field clean-up and sanitation in that city.

Members of the CBRN units with 13 tanks were deployed on the city streets and in the buildings and they act at the same time and in the field there are tanks with water and fuel. Another deployable medical treatment facility is being set-up across the House of Culture, which will be ready tonight for providing health care to citizens of Obrenovac.

During the previous day, a total of 170 tanks of the sewage system were taken away from the city.

As pointed out by Slobodan Solevic, the representative of the city emergency response team, 1200 tons of trash were taken away from Obrenovac to the landfill in Vinca and three mini dumps around Obrenovac. Also, they are wotking on establishing a sewer, and in this task the divers are engaged working on the approach to the collector.

According to Solevic, tonight it is expected that public lighting will be put into operation on the main city streets.

Crisis Response Headquarters in Obrenovac was visited today also by General Ljubisa Dikovic, Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff.

On this occasion, Lieutenant General Aleksandar Zivkovic and his associates and members of the Headquarters briefed General Dikovic on the engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces and machinery in the territory of Obrenovac.

General Dikovic and his associates visited the households in the Rvati village near Obrenovac where he talked with citizens whose houses suffered the worst damage during the recent floods. In this part of the city, members of the Armed Forces are intensively working on clearing the field. Chief of General Staff visited also the deployable medical treatment facility at the "Jefimija" elementary school which was put into operation yesterday.
