Help for Nikola Calasan

Milos Jankovic, Assistant Minister for Human Resources, handed over to Zoran Calasan, financial assistance that was collected by members of the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces for his seriously ill sixteen year old son.

On this occasion, Assistant Minister Jankovic expressed the hope that the collected money will at least slightly facilitate fight with the disease for the family Calesan and pointed out that he was proud that the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces showed once again that they have a big heart.

In the charity event, which was launched in mid-May by Department for Tradition, Standard and Veterans, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces collected 1.493 million dinars, showing again their unselfish willingness to help their colleagues.

Nemaline myopathy is a severe and still incurable muscle disease with which Zoran's son struggles every day, and the whole Calasan family along with him. Weakened muscles used during breathing, made this sixteen-year old boy dependent on the respirator, apparatus that performs the function of the lungs instead of him ever since he was still a baby. Although the family has two respirators on their own and one that they got from the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases for use, all the three of them require service that costs about 785,000.00 dinars. The family is not able to finance it themselves, because in addition to the regular six-month service, the respirators must have vital parts replaced every five years.
