Armed Forces cleaning up Obrenovac

20:10 – Citizens of Obrenovac received medical assistance

Around ten citizens of Obrenovac who had mostly minor injuries have been examined today in the deployable medical treatment facility stationed near the "Jefimija" elementary school. One patient was sent to the MMA, and others were sent to their homes after receiving the medical assistance.

- The main role of the deployable medical treatment facility is taking care of the injured and sick residents in this area. Our medical team consists of seven specialists, and we are able to offer patients the full treatment, Major Dejan Zeljkovic, General Surgeon from the MMA Department of General Surgery, said.

The main purpose of the deployable medical treatment facility which the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces received in 2008 as a donation to the Kingdom of Norway, is providing first aid to the wounded and sick persons in multinational operations, including surgery interventions, until the stabilization of the patient and his transport to the higher-level hospital. This is the first application of the hospital of its kind in real life; so far it was only used in the exercises.

Tomorrow it was planned to set up another deployable medical treatment facility near the Cultural Centre, at Vuk Karadzic Street.

14:53 - Deployable medical treatment facility put in operation

Deployable medical treatment facility from the composition of MMA was put in operation today in the courtyard of the elementary school "Jefimija" in Obrenovac. The capacity of that temporary health care facility will be made available to the citizens of the areas affected by floods and members of the Serbian Armed Forces and Police who are working on the repair of the damage.

Lieutenant Colonel Miroslav Brocic, commander of the field hospital, said that 30 doctors and medical staff are engaged in the work of the hospital. According to him, it is possible to make simple surgery interventions, x-ray diagnostics, laboratory tests, internal medicine, orthopaedic and other examinations. Complex medical cases will be referred to a higher level of health care.

The possibility that another medical treatment facility of the same type is set up at a different location in Obrenovac is being considered.

The "Bora Markovic" barracks in Obrenovac are being arranged for accommodating in the next few days a group of displaced people whose homes were flooded.

Major Nikolas Misailovic, Commander of the barracks, said that soldiers from several units of the Serbian Armed Forces have been intensively working to prepare the barracks, which have not been used for several years, to receive the displaced people.
