3rd Pan-European Congress of Military Medicine opens
Opening ceremony of the most important gathering in the world of military medicine, taking place in Belgrade from 2nd to 6th June, was attended by Bratislav Gasic, Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Johan de Graaf, Chairman of the Pan-European Working Group of the International Committee of Military Medicine, Brigadier General Marijan Novakovic, Head of MMA who is Vice Chairman of the Pan-European Working Group, and Brigadier General Prof. Zoran Popovic, Head of the Military Health Care Department, who is Director of the 3rd Pan-European Congress of Military Medicine and representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces .
- Military experts from Serbia, unfortunately, had a chance to master the areas that will be discussed at the Congress in the immediate situations in times that are behind us – Minister Gasic pointed out adding that the Military Medical Academy today is a leader and distinctive brand of military health care, not only in the region but also beyond, and its quality is reflected in the variety of experts who are our ambassadors of health worldwide.
According to him, the participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in multinational operations is unthinkable without the participation of members of the military health care system, which proved to be extremely useful for both our professionals and for the users of the services.
- We will continue to foster the established trend of positive energy in the future, and the results achieved in the treatment of patients according to the highest standards of the world medical profession, excellent results of scientific research, as well as investing in the future of military medicine by education of personnel, will give great impetus and motivation – Minister Gasic said.
Brigadier General Johan de Graaf from the Netherlands expressed pleasure at being able to be a part of this event, for which he is sure that it will be fruitful for all participants.
- The International Committee of Military Medicine connects people and countries enabling them to share knowledge and experiences, leaving politics in the background, said General de Graaf, who also reflected on the recent floods that affected the Balkans, leaving the most serious consequences exactly in Serbia. He pointed out that our country, in spite of great disasters managed to organize such a big event.
General Popovic, Director of 3rd Pan-European Congress of Military Medicine, said that he was proud of our military health care system, because doctors have a great reputation and traditionally enjoy the confidence of all our citizens.
Secretary General of the International Committee of Military Medicine, Major General (ret) Roger Van Hoof has expressed his sorrow over the recent flooding that have stricken our country, but also congratulated the organizers, "who despite the huge disaster that nobody could have predicted, managed to organize such a gathering". After Kaliningrad and Amsterdam, this year Belgrade had the opportunity in cooperation with the International Committee of Military Medicine to organise the 3rd Pan-European Congress of Military Medicine. In the next few days the focus will be of War Surgery, Basic Research in Trauma and Sepsis, Update in Preventive and Veterinary Medicine, as well as Mental Health. Round table participants will have the opportunity to discuss about the Military Medical Education in Europe, Management of CBRN Exposure and Update to the Military Medical Management and Supply.
The congress is attended by representatives of 26 countries.

- We will set up two military hospitals, all CBRN platoons that are available will be in Obrenovac, as well as the Veterinary Service of the Serbian Armed Forces. A new response headquarters will be set up, Minister Gasic said and added that all available machinery of the Serbian Armed Forces will be sent to Obrenovac to clean up the terrain.
