Exhibition about the persecution of Slovenes opens at the Military Museum



Exhibition on persecution of Slovenes and violence against other Slavic nations during the Second World War has been opened today at the Gallery of the Military Museum in Belgrade. Society of Slovenian Exiles 1941-1945 and Museum of Genocide Victims organized the exhibition.

The visitors were welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Mijatovic, Director of the Military Museum, Milan Predan, Slovenian Deputy Ambassador to Serbia, representatives of the Museum of Genocide Victims and Society of Slovenian Exiles 1941-1945.

Lieutenant Colonel Mijatovic said that the exhibition represents the dark period of the Second World War which tells about the crimes.

- I hope that you will carefully look at this display. I know you will not enjoy in it, because it is hard to enjoy in such exhibition, but you will surely come out with a deep sense of belonging to the people who could not stand such criminals in this area, the Director of the Military Museum pointed out.

A representative of the Embassy of Slovenia has also stressed the importance of the exhibition not to forget the causes and consequences of the Second World War even after 70 years.

The representatives of the Society of Slovenian Exiles 1941-1945 and the Museum of Genocide Victims agreed that the display is a warning, and that everyone needs to remember certain historical facts and tragedy, and to realize that one needs to forgive but not forget the crimes.

Representatives of the Society of Slovenian Exiles presented to the Military Museum and the Museum of Genocide Victims with the plaque as a token of gratitude.

The exhibition includes 39 panels, and data and photographs collected during the preparation of the first European Congress of displaced persons and refugees – victims of fascism and Nazism, 1920-1945, organized by the Society of Slovenian Exiles in Ljubljana 2009, as well as during the preparation of the International Conference on caring for refugees, exiles and prisoners held in 2010, also in the capital of Slovenia.
