Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic has met today with the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Belgrade, Jan Varsho.

Minister Gasic thanked for the assistance that the Government of the Slovak Republic provided to our country after the devastating floods. “Thank you for showing compassion and concern for Serbia and its people, who are currently going through one of the most difficult periods", Minister Gasic said.

Ambassador Varsho said that Slovakia will continue to assist Serbia in the forthcoming period. He also stressed that Slovakia committed to the further development of political and economic relations with Serbia.

The Republic of Serbia especially appreciates principled support of Slovakia concerning the protection of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Kosovo and Metohija, Gasic said.

The Defence Minister and Ambassador of Slovakia agreed that the most important area of defence cooperation was joint engagement in multinational operations of the United Nations in Cyprus.

The topic of discussion was the possibility of promoting cooperation in the field of military education and aviation. Ambassador Varsho said that Slovakia is firmly committed to the strengthening of defence cooperation, especially the cooperation in the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union and the engagement in the EU battle groups.
