"Dancing tanks" shown to Gasic



Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia Bratislav Gasic has attended today in Alabino near Moscow, a demonstration exercise of the teams of the elite Tamanskaya motorized rifle division of the Russian army within the preparations for competition in the tank biathlon in which the representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces will also take part.

After the successfully performed "dancing tanks" Gasic told reporters that the SAF applied to participate in the biathlon with four teams and one referee, but that he spoke with the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu to increase the number of Serbian teams to eight.

The Minister, who attended the exercises with the delegation of Serbia in the framework of the Moscow International Security conference, said that he really liked what was shown today, and that based on that the members of the SAF can also see where we are at this moment in the technical and operational sense.

Gasic added that the teams have already been preparing for this sports event and that they are hoping to win because, as he said, our military can be counterpart to everyone.

"We would not come if we think that we are not trained enough and that we do not have enough quality even to win", Gasic said.

According to him, during the floods, the SAF showed that it can operate in all terrains and that it managed, along with its people, together with the police and gendarmerie, to practically overcome this great disaster.

As noted, this is not the end of the job and the army continues to work on the clean-up of the terrain.

Tank biathlon, as it was said at the briefing, will be held from 28 July to 16 August, at the training ground in Alabino in four stages – individual race, sprint, sports part and relay, and the participation was confirmed so far by 13 countries.

At the demonstration exercise, the teams of the Russian army performed first the so-called dancing tanks where, with music, on the surface area 30 by 30 meters, four tanks, which arrived successively, and one self-propelled gun demonstrated skill of manoeuvring with a minimum radius of movement.

In the second part of the exercise, showing a high level of training, four teams competed in the biathlon, which included driving between the pillars, shooting conditional goal, overcoming obstacles in the water and on land and driving at high speed.
