Minister of Defence in an official visit to Italy



Nebojsa Rodic, Minister of Defence in the caretaker government of the Republic of Serbia met today with Roberta Pinotti, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Italy, at her invitation. During the meeting, it was stated that the defence cooperation between the two countries was developed, particularly in the area of education and training, air force, intelligence and reconnaissance activities, military medical cooperation, training of special forces, as well as the removal of unexploded ordnance where the Italian financial contribution amounted to 200 thousand euros.

As for the possibility for further enhancement of cooperation, Minister Rodic expressed interest in the joint participation in multinational operations of UN and European Union, military economic cooperation and exchange of experiences with regard to security and defence aspects of the EU accession. On this occasion, he emphasized that the Ministry of Defence has fulfilled all the obligations provided for in the action plans to meet the recommendations of the European Commission, and as priorities for the coming period he stated "the improvement of administrative capacities for more active cooperation in the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy, participation in the EU operations for crisis management and the development of joint projects with the European Defence Agency."

During an official visit to the Republic of Italy, Minister Rodic also attended the promotion of the book "The Serbian Army – a forgotten story", where he pointed out that marking the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Great War is of great importance for Serbia, but also for the process of reconciliation and the unification of Europe.

"By today's joint reminder we wish to encourage all nations to jointly engage in building a safer and more secure environment", Minister Rodic said, pointing out that the common goals should be the prosperity and well-being, but that the suffering and the role of ordinary people in the realization of the great dream of a more humane world must not be forgotten.
