Anniversary of the Srem Front breakthrough



The 69th anniversary of the breakthrough of the Srem Front was marked at the Srem Front Memorial Complex in Adasevci near Sid.

Ivica Dacic, Prime Minister in the caretaker government of Serbia, laid a wreath at the memorial complex on behalf of the Serbian government in honor of the soldiers who were killed defending the country from fascism.

Wreaths were also laid by delegations of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, province of Vojvodina, representatives of the National Liberation War Veterans, the embassies of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Macedonia, and a representative of the Croatian Armed Forces.

Addressing the veterans of the National Liberation War, participants in the battles in the Srem front, the descendants of the fallen soldiers, many guests and citizens, Prime Minister Dacic said that Serbia has no future if it does not respect its history, but also that the future could not be built only on the past.

In severe and bloody battles which lasted for 175 days, about 13,500 Yugoslav soldiers were killed, mostly young men from Serbia and Montenegro, 1,100 members of the Red Army, 630 Bulgarians and 136 Italians from the composition of the Yugoslav troops.

The enemy lost about 30,000 soldiers.
