Defence Minister and Swedish Ambassador visit Military Museum

At the invitation of Nebojsa Rodic, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia in the caretaker government, Mr Bertil Christer Asp, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden, together with Colonel Thomas Klementsson, Defence Attaché, visited the Military Museum in Kalemegdan.

It was the first visit of the Ambassador and an opportunity to get acquainted with the exhibits and make a tour of the museum building itself. It is a building constructed in 1924, in the style of feudal castles, with two towers. This extremely valuable architectural building was last renovated in 1961.

Minister Rodic expressed interest in starting with the recovery and refurbishing of the building after nearly six decades, because the damage to the facade and mezzanine floors is such as to seriously endanger the preservation of invaluable museum exhibits.

Implementation of the project "Reconstruction of the facade of the building of the Military Museum in Belgrade" will be presented in writing to the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade, and the Ambassador expressed his willingness to inform the officials in his country about that in order to make appropriate decisions.

Military Museum in Belgrade is one of the most valuable historic areas in the Republic and ranked the best according to the number of visitors. In order to maintain this situation and to lead to the increase in the number of visitors, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Defence Minister in the caretaker government agreed that it is justified and proper to invest a maximum of engagement and time to renovate the museum display and the building itself.
