Workshop "The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and New Media"



Colonel Petar Boskovic, Head of Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defence, has opened today the workshop "The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces and New Media" at "Andrevlje" Congress Centre on Fruska Gora, intended for representatives of the media who follow the defence system.

On this occasion, Colonel Boskovic pointed out that the Ministry of Defence is one of the few in our country that in communicating with the public uses also the social networks, announcing organizational changes in that Department which are exactly the result of the growing relevance and importance of this aspect of performing in public. He also stressed the importance of the role of a public affairs officer (PAO) in our defence system, as well as a set of guidelines and regulations related to the performance in the media and public relations developed by the Ministry of Defence and regularly updated. Colonel Boskovic also pointed to the importance of educating the users of social networks in the defence system, as the best way to prevent their misuse.

Following the two-day workshop, Borislav Miljanovic, Director of "Represent Communications" agency and Ana Mirkovic, Director of the Institute for Digital Communications, spoke about the Internet, new media and social networks in Serbia emphasizing the importance of the content to be placed on the social networks as one of the important factors for successful communication in social networks, pointing to the effects and benefits of some social networks in public relations.

Zoran Stanojevic, Editor in the Serbian Broadcasting Agency, and Ratko Femic, journalist of the "New Magazine", spoke about the way how media and journalists use the Internet and social networks, while Major Jovan Krivokapic, Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence and Major Zoran Bobar, Head of the Group for Internet of the Public Relations Department, spoke about the performance of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces on the Internet and social networks.

The second day is reserved for the experiences of international organizations in the use of new media and social networks, as well as the experience of state institutions in this field.

The workshop was organized with the support of the British Embassy in Belgrade.
