Pronouncing the safest drivers in 2013



At a session of the Council for safety of military road users today, the safest drivers in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in 2013 have been pronounced.

Three of the safest drivers who crossed most of kilometers without any traffic violations and accidents are Sergeant First Class Aleksandar Gluvic from the 25th Military Police Battalion of the Guard, Corporal Sasa Stosic, a member of the 40th Command Battalion of the Fourth Army Brigade and Milos Kozic, employed at the Military Institution "Morović”.

Congratulating the safest drivers, Jasminka Todorov, Assistant Minister for Material Resources and President of the Council, stressed the importance and danger of their job and the attention that the defence system pays to the safety of its members in the traffic.

Opening the session of the Council, she pointed out that, in the previous period, three rulebooks addressing these issues were published, while the development of the fourth Rulebook on Safety of military participants in road traffic is in its final stage. She added that in order to maintain the current situation, especially for the improvement of the security situation in traffic takes a lot of effort, and that the focus of the work will continue to be on education of younger category of drivers in particular, to avoid the unintended consequences of accidents both in military vehicles, and in civilian cars driven by members of the defence system in the public transport.

The meeting was attended by Colonel Zeljko Ninkovic, Deputy Chairman of the Council, Chief of the General Staff Department for Logistics J-4, members of the Council, representatives of the units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, Ministry of Transport, Traffic Police, Ministry of the Interior, Agency for Traffic Safety and Technical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad.

Branimir Miletic, Assistant Director of the Agency for Traffic Safety informed the members of the Council about the effects of the implementation of the new Law on Traffic Safety, as well as the most important indicators of the trafic safety in Serbia over the past few years.

Colonel Zeljko Rankovic, Head of Section for Traffic and Transportation of the General Logistics Department presented the new Rulebook on safety of military road users that should replace the old norms of 1997. He said that the drafting of the Rulebook is coming to an end, and that it should officially enter into force in April already.

Major Aleksandar Gosic from the Section for Traffic and Transportation of the General Logistics Department presented the safety indicators of military road users. He pointed out the downward trend of the number of traffic accidents in 2013 compared to the previous period, but noted that the whole picture is spoiled by the fact that one of 74 accidents of military road users was with a tragic outcome.
