Visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Defence of Israel
Delegation of the Ministry of Defence of the State of Israel, led by Jakob Laor, Director of the Directorate for European Defence Policy, paid a two-day visit to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.As part of the regular bilateral defence consultations, in the Department for International Military Cooperation, Colonel Milan Konjikovac, Acting Chief of the International Military Cooperation had a meeting with the Israeli delegation.
Colonel Konjikovac conveyed that good relations between the two countries provide an excellent basis for the development and intensification of cooperation with that country ever since its establishment in 2001, with significant room for further improvement. It has been proposed to consider the possibility of defining a legal framework for cooperation in the form of an agreement on defence cooperation that would treat further cooperation in a more comprehensive manner.
The readiness of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia has been expressed to develop with Israel not only military economic cooperation but also cooperation in the field of military education, military medicine, and other fields of mutual interest, including the military-to-military cooperation.Laor thanked for the warm reception and confirmed that Israel is interested in further strengthening of cooperation in the field of defence. He offered definition of new areas of cooperation in accordance with the capabilities of both sides.
They reviewed the Draft Plan for Bilateral Defence Cooperation between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Defence of the State of Israel for 2014.
During the visit, apart from the reception at the office of Miroslav Jovanovic, Assistant Minister for Defence Policy, members of the Israeli delegation had separate talks with representatives of the Material Resources Sector and PU ''YUGOIMPORT – SDPR'' , the Serbian Armed Forces, University of Defence, Military Academy, Military Medical Academy and Military Archives.During his visit to the Military Academy, Laor delivered a lecture on the political and security situation in the Middle East for the participants in the Command Staff and General Staff Courses.
