The Day of the MMA Faculty of Medicine

In the amphitheatre of the Military Medical Academy today, the 2nd March, the Day of the Medical Faculty of the Military Academy has been marked. The appropriate ceremony which marked five years of existence of that higher education and scientific research medical institution of the University of Defence was attended by Lieutenant General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtic, the Rector of the University of Defence, with his closest associates, Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic, Head of the Military Medical Academy, many distinguished guests, professors, associates and friends of the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy and the Military Academy, trainees and cadets.

Addressing the audience, General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtic recalled the 170-year long tradition of medical science in Serbia and the Military Medical Academy.

- The MMA Faculty of Medicine is a specific educational and scientific institution in the country in many ways. It is a very important reference in what we are striving for as an army and the state, and this is the return to Europe through the process of education and scientific development. Education is the key to success in this endeavour. In order to achieve this, we must meet certain conditions, among which the most appropriate is certainly evaluation of teaching work and academic results. We are making efforts to achieve that during the next academic year at the latest. Modern technologies, interoperability, competitiveness, distance learning are slowly but surely becoming our academic standard. Believing in the young generation, in the MMA Faculty of Medicine cadets who achieve outstanding results in the acquisition of knowledge and the scientific research, we are doing all we can to achieve a clear goal and that is to create highly motivated professionals, elite officers and doctors of our time and, through studies and subsequent career development, release their creative spirit, as a condition of any progress, General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtic said among other things.

Congratulating the fellow professors and doctors, trainees and cadets the Day of the Medical Faculty, Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic, Head of the Military Medical Academy pointed out that five years of the MMA Medical Faculty means a lot, not only to all members of the MMA, but also to the Serbian Armed Forces, that in less than two years we will be enriched by the first generation of doctors educated and trained exactly in the MMA.

- Our cadets have much to say. Their attitude towards learning and obligations, peers, and teachers, their achieved results, showed that we have the reason to be proud of all of them. It is not surprising, because in the past five years we have trained the best of the best. We have excellent teaching and material base, highly educated, experienced and capable teachers, few classes of cadets, which enables high-quality mentoring classes and continuous monitoring of the activities and results of cadets, Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic said.

Welcoming the guests, Brigadier General Academician Prof. Dr. Miodrag Colic, Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy, said that the path to receiving diploma of a military doctor is not easy, just as it was not easy either the way that the MMA Medical Faculty passed over the past five years.

- Health education in the MMA began in the sixties of the last century, but it was only with establishing the University of Defence that we got the opportunity to form the Medical Faculty from the former High School, which, with another accreditation of the last year became a scientific research institution of the MMA. Currently, there are accredited study programs for integrated studies of medicine, specialist studies and three modules of doctoral studies. Our students and trainees achieved outstanding results, the best indicator of which is the average score above 9.30, Prof. Dr. Miodrag Colic said.

In the second part of the ceremony, trainees and cadets presented before the Board consisting of Brigadier General. Dr. Miodrag Colic, Colonel Prof. Dragan Dincic and Prof. Zvonko Magic, in short briefings, a dozen of scientific and professional medical papers, and then the best trainees and cadets were presented the annual honours and awards.
