Marking the Independence Day of Serbia
On the occasion of the Statehood Day of Serbia, President of the Republic of Serbia , Tomislav Nikolic , accompanied by Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Dikovic , laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala .President Nikolić wrote down the following words in the Memorial book :
" Today, Serbia is worthy of you. It is worthy of all your pain and every drop of blood you shed for her children . And so it will be and when, and we are gone . "
After President Nikolic's laying of wreaths, the Guard company performed a ceremonial allignment.
Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic laid a laurel wreath on the coffin of Karadjordje in the church of Saint George on Oplenac.Congratulating the citizens Statehood Day , Dacic said that the day is not only of symbolic significance of the liberation aspirations of the Serbian people, but more importantly the memory of the first achievements of statehood and the struggle for constitution in order to build a modern state which Serbia aspires to in the future.
The wreath-laying ceremony was performed with full state and military honors in the presence of Serbian Army Guard and the Guard Orchestra.
