Ministers of Defence of Poland and Serbia meet



The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia Nebojsa Rodic on the second day of his visit to Poland , met in Warsaw with the Minister of National Defence Tomaz Simoniak .

Both sides agreed that cooperation in the field of defense is good marked by qualitative and quantitative improvement in the last two years. The legal basis was established by the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Defence in June this year. The main fields of cooperation include military education and training for participation in multinational operations , aviation medicine , military law , military archives and a religious service in the armed forces .

Ministers also discussed the possibilities of improving military cooperation , in particular through the exchange of experiences of participation in multinational operations , engagement in EU combat groups and the training of artillery units . It was estimated that in the next period  the cooperation in these areas is expected to be intensified.

During the meeting they discussed the modalities for the improvement of military economic cooperation . The Polish side has proposed that the delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian defense industry visit Poland, when the representatives of the Polish Chamber of manufacturers of weapons and military equipment will discuss further development and concretization of cooperation .

Minister Rodic stressed that Serbia was committed to active participation in peacekeeping missions of the United Nations and the European Union. Serbian and Polish delegations discussed their experience of participation in multinational operations. It was pointed out that Poland’s experience in public relations and crisis communication during participation in the operation would be of great use to the Serbian military.

" The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces find Polish experiences in terms of security and defense aspects of joining the European Union extremely significant , as well as the involvement in the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union," said Minister Rodic. Minister Simoniak conveyed the Polish experience of engaging in combat groups of the European Union .

The Republic of Serbia has for the first time sent one of the members of its forces to further studies in the Republic of Poland, and it is planned that the cooperation in the field of military education continue and intensify . The Polish side offered the facilities of the University of Defence training for members at all levels of education , including military doctors.

It was estimated that the the cooperation in the field of aviation medicine between the Aeronautical Institute of Medicine and the Institute of Aviation Medicine of the armed forces of Poland was at an excellent level. The cooperation in military archives and military law is also at a good level, and Polish experiences in the field of religious services will also come in handy. Another point of discussion was the possibility of establishing cooperation and exchange of military museums.

Minister Rodic thanked the Polish side for professional engagement of members of the Polish armed forces in KFOR , as well as the support Poland gives to European integration of Serbia. He acquainted Minister Simoniak with cooperation priorities of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia and the European Union .

It was agreed that the rational planning of activities through bilateral military cooperation plan to in 2014 classes further intensify the cooperation in the main fields of cooperation, as well as establishing new ones of mutual interest.

At the end of the visit , the delegation visited 16th airborne battalion in Krakow , where the units demosntarted their capabilities.
