The day of the military medical service marked



In the amphitheater of the Military Medical Academy today organized a celebration on the occasion of the military medical service was organized today as this service cherishes the memory of the day when the first military hospital in Serbia was established.

Congratulating the holiday, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic said that the ministry recognizes the military health care as an important factor in strengthening the defense capability of the country and resources that may contribute to its affirmation both home and abroad.

- Military doctors and nurses have always shared the destiny of their people by fostering a long and rich tradition of military health care. Being a military physician has special significance. It entails not only medical knowledge, but courage, sacrifice and dedication, and above all, commitment to their patients who are no longer divided into military and civilian patients. All our citizens who are treated in our military medical centers know that - said the secretary of state Djordjevic highlighting the role of our medical staff in peacekeeping operations around the world.

He said that the tradition will continue, as this 5th generation of the MMA Medical School, can confirm.


- The first class of future military doctors will be promoted in 2015, which will be of great importance for the entire health care system of our country - said Djordjevic adding that it is another proof of success of military health care, despite financial woes it encounters, and that all foreign delegations have expressed a desire to visit the Academy.

Speaking about the significance of today's holiday, the Chief of the Military Health Care Brigadier General Professor Dr. Zoran Popovic recalled that since its establishment in 1839 until today, the Serbian Medical Corps have gone a long way, the most difficult challenges in its mission being to support the Serbian army and the people.

- Today's medical corps, that is, military health care, in its domain of activity is a remarkable resource in the armed forces of the Republic of Serbia and the health system of the country as a whole – as general Popovic said pointing to the main tasks of military health care, which is now a regulated system, recognized on national, regional and even global scale.

On this day, as in previous years, the Directorate of Military Health Care, presented the award for the author work in the field of medical science to Dr. Dragana Vucevic and Academic Miodrag Colic for monographic publication "Regulatory T lymphocites - development of their function and clinical significance," and to Professor Bela Balint and Professor Dr. Milena Pavlovic for their monograph "Stem cells and tissue engineering."

Celebration of the military medical services day is marked on 30 July as on this day in 1839 in the Constitution of the Principality of Serbia, and the Regulation on establishing garrisons, Dr. Emmerich Lindenmeier was appointed the first doctor in the General Staff Military Staff.

Military Health Service is now a modern and organized system at the primary level (medical departments in SAF), secondary level (Nis Military Hospital, Military Medical Center institutions Belgrade Military Medical Center in Novi Sad) and tertiary level (VMA).
