Meeting with NATO delegation



In the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, a meeting was held between the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army and NATO delegation headed by Major General Carlos Branco, Director Cooperation and Regional Secruity Division, NATO International Military Staff. The meeting was chaired by Major General Prof. Mitar Kovac, Head of the Strategic Planning Department of Security Policy of the Ministry of Defence.

The aim of the meeting was specifying the cooperation at the strategic level, NATO and the Republic of Serbia through the Partnership for Peace and NATO delegation presenting the achieved level of defense reform and the transformation of the Serbian Armed Forces as well as the plan of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for participation in multinational operations.

Major General Prof. Mitar Kovac said that the defense system was reformed in strategic-doctrinal, normative-legal and organizational-functional fields, and that special attention should be paid to the reform of the Army of Serbia with special focus on building functional and operational capabilities, in accordance with the established mission of the Army of Serbia and participation in multinational operations. He also pointed out that the recommendations and assistance that NATO is providing the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, in this context, it is very important.

Colonel Sasa Stefanovic, a representative of the SAF Joint Operations Command presented to the representatives of NATO's the current SAF engagement in multinational operations, current and planned participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in multinational headquarters, including plans of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to participate in multinational operations and the most important aspects of regional military cooperation the SAF is implementing or is planning to implement..

Major General Carlos Branko, during his expose, underlined the content and the guidelines for the NATO military cooperation with the Republic of Serbia, for 2013/2014, and the need for the development and adoption of a new document for the period 2014/2015.
