International conference 'Serbia in security and economic challenges of the Euro-Atlantic region"



At Megatrend University in Belgrade, in the organization of the Atlantic Council of Serbia, an international conference "Serbia on security and economic challenges of the Euro-Atlantic area" was held on 26 April 2013

The key speakers who gave their opening remarks were Ivica dacic, Prime Minister of Serbia and The Minister of Interior as well as Jelko Kacin, European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia and Miroslav Jovanovic, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy.

In his opening speech Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, referring to the agreement signed in Brussels, said that Serbia's role is clear and stable.

'' We will be a reliable partner to our partners, our neighbors, good neighbors, and thereby all in view of implementing a clear interest for country,'' said Prime Minister Dacic, and as the main means to achieve the stated goals of the dialogue, which is possible to get an understanding of all the processes of transition.

Assistant Minister for Defence, Miroslav Jovanovic stressed the negative effects of corruption on global, regional and national levels. Furthermore, he also highlighted the current and future engagement of the Ministry of Defence in the process of building integrity and curbing corruption, stressing excellent cooperation with the UN, OSCE, NATO and other international organizations.

Later in his speech, as part of the topic "Fighting corruption in the security sector to achieve greater economic power and security of the state", Jovanovic acquainted the participants about the planned increase in the scope of engagement resources of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in Multinational Operations, under the auspices of the UN and the EU during the 2013th year.

The importance of the conference according to the Chancellor of Megatrend University and president of the Atlantic Council of Serbia professor Mica Jovanovic, was to emphasize the fact that it is held at a time when Serbia has made a very important decision to ensure peace and security for its citizens along with development and prosperity of the country.

In the capacity of Serbia, which can be shared with partners battling joint security threats, the conference participants were presented opportunities for the training of the staff in RCBD Krusevac centre in the training center for multinational operations units in "Jug" base, Technical Overhaul Institute Kragujevac as a regional centre for the destroying surplus ammunition, as well as significant capacities of the Military Academy

Other speakers were Mr. Douglas John Henderson, former UK Minister of Defence, Mr. Denis Dukarme, Member of Parliament of Belgium, Ms. Paulin Masart, the representative of the Security Defence Agenda (Secutiry Defence Agenda), representatives of the Atlantic Council of Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia and many other distinguished guests and experts dealing with security and defense issues.
