Awarding prizes for the best scientific works in the defence system



Annual prizes for the best research project, doctoral dissertation and master thesis at the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have traditionally been awarded in the Central Military Club today, within the celebration of the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Head of the Strategic Planning Department Major General Prof. Mitar Kovac, President of the Board, explained that the annual prize for the best research project, doctoral dissertation and master thesis in the defence system was established by the decision of the Minister of Defence of 2005, as an incentive and a symbolic recognition of young scientific research personnel, and as a motivation for their future work.

General Kovac introduced the awarded authors, and these are – Prof. Zvonko Magic from the Institute for Medical Research, Military Medical Academy, for the scientific research project "Prognostic and predictive significance of genetic and epigenetic changes in solid tumours", Major Bojan Pavkovic, PhD, from the Military Technical Institute, for his doctoral thesis "Research on methods of projectile trajectory correction for the purpose of increasing their range and accuracy" and Captain Borko Lepojevic, MSc, from the Public Relations Department, for his thesis "Managing the security element in the systems based on NFC technology".

Also, the general military-scientific-theoretical journal "military action", which is an open forum for the presentation and stimulation of innovative thinking on all aspects of security and defense in 2008. was awarded the annual prize for the best article-study, scientific discussion, or a significant contribution to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, which was published in this journal.

Board for awarding annual prizes of "Vojno delo" journal declared as the best article published in the 2012 the paper "Political changes and their impact on security and strategic defence concepts" by Associate Professor Miroslav Mladenovic, PhD, and Assistant Professor Zoran Jevtic, PhD, from the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade.

Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Miroslav Jovanovic greeted the participants on behalf of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic, and congratulated the winners on the valuable prizes. Jovanovic pointed out that the vision of the defence system will continue to be based on organised scientific research activities, high-quality scientific work and effective results of research and development activities.

- The prizes are a confirmation that the defence system recognized, also in this way, the role of science in the process of reform and development. It is an indisputable fact that science is essential for the successful functioning of any military, both in peace and in war. Looking through history, military science adapted to the needs of the military but the military also adapted to the changes brought by the results of scientific research and new technologies, Assistant Minister of Defence said. He also pointed out some of the significant results of the scientific activities which were achieved in the defence system in 2012 with an explanation that science in the Republic of Serbia, in the last few years, has had great results.

During the ceremony, there was also an exhibition dedicated to the presentation of the results of our scientific research institutions.
