Keys of apartments in "Stepa Stepanovic" residential area handed over
In the area of former "Field Marshal Stepa Stepanovic" barracks in Belgrade, 24 keys of new apartments have been given today to the members of the defence system.The residents were handed over the keys by the Head of the Infrastructure Department of the Material Resources Sector of the Ministry of Defence Colonel Milan Sladoje who wished everyone happiness, good health and long life in their new apartments.
- Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with the Building Directorate of Serbia, takes all that is required, according to the capabilities, to implement this project successfully to the end. We expect that by June all the apartments will be distributed to the members of the defence system and we hope that your colleagues, neighbours and friends will also move in soon, said Colonel Sladoje.
Allocation of apartments was also attended by Head of "Beograd" Military Construction Centre Lieutenant Colonel Davorko Palikuca and Director of the Building Directorate of Serbia Nebojsa Surlan.
Professor of physical education at the Military Academy Dragan Strelic got a thee-room apartment where he moved from a suite of about thirty square meters. He was waiting for this day all his life.
- This is the greatest and most solemn day of my life. I have been working at the Military Academy for 23 years. I have a wife and three children. I am delighted that, despite the hard times, they finally have something that is quite normal in every country of the world that everyone has their own space and corner where they can learn, work and develop their own style of life, Strelic said.At the site of the former barracks, on 42 hectares of land, a residential and commercial complex with 4616 flats, 156 shops, 1430 and 3300 open parking spaces is being built. A proportion of 21 percent of gross area of the space belongs to the Ministry of Defence for solving the housing issue of the members of defence system.
