55th World Military Cross Country Championship closed



In the Sports Hall of the Elementary School "Zarko Zrenjanin" in Apatin, the 55th World Military Cross Country Championship was officially closed. Apart from the citizens and the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, the ceremony was attended by Mayor of Apatin Dr Zivorad Smiljanic, the official representative of the International Military Sports Council of Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel Abdulhakeem M. Alshino of Bahrain, Head of the Serbian delegation to the International Military Sports Council Colonel Dragan Djini and commander of the 1st Training Centre in Sombor Lieutenant Colonel Goran Ostojic.

At the Closing Ceremony, the winners in individual and team competition were declared, to whom Lieutenant Colonel Alshino and Colonel Dragan Dini presented medals for the results achieved in the competition part and awards to individuals and institutions that have helped organizing of the 55th World Military Cross Country Championship.

The Cross-Country Competition was held on short distance tracks 4933 meters long, in the men's and women's competition on the 11,023 meter long track in the men's competition. On the snow-covered track of the Mladost FC stadium in Apatin, 224 runners from 22 countries were on the starting line. Races in very cold weather at temperature of -4 0C were held in dominance of competitors from Bahrain, who won all the three first places in individual competition, and two first places in the team competition, while in the 11 km race for men they won the three first places.

Among women, the two first places were taken by female competitors from Bahrain, while the third place went to a competitor from Morocco. The first place in team competition went to Bahrain, the second to Morocco, and the third to France.

The best ranked Serbian athlete Ksenija Bubnjevic ranked 20th place in the 4933 meter race. Marijana Čegar Lukic finished the race at the 35th position, while Nevena Jovanovic was 41st. In men's competition, in 4933 meter race, the top-ranked Serbian athlete was Aleksandar Milosavljevic on 51st place, Dejan Popovic at 56th place, while the 61st place went to Alexander Nesevski.

The 55th World Military Championship under the motto "Friendship through Sport" was organized by the Serbian Delegation to the International Military Sports Council (CISM) and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with the Municipality of Apatin, the City of Sombor, and the Athletic Federation of Serbia.
