State Secretary Nikolic at the Brussels Forum



State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Nikolic is participating in the Brussels Forum from 15 to 17 March 2013.

Forum is organized and held annually in cooperation with the German Marshall Fund of the United States and brings together the most influential leaders of Europe and North America in the fields of politics, business and science, to address the current challenges that both sides of the Atlantic are faced with.

Participants are heads of states, senior officials from the institutions of EU and member states, officials and representatives of the U.S. Congress, lawmakers, academics and media representatives.

Leaders on both sides of the Atlantic continue to deepen transatlantic cooperation discussing a number of global challenges such as financial crises, climate change, energy security, and European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Brussels Forum is the place where the transatlantic community can contribute to the resolution of these issues. Varied questions about the essence of the transatlantic relations and discussion on a large number of issues will be addressed in an active dialogue between the facilitator, panellists and participants.

In addition to discussing key topics of the Forum, the participation of the State Secretary Aleksandar Nikolic is an opportunity to present foreign policy goals and current situation in the process of integration of Serbia into the European Union, the capacity and the intentions of the Ministry of Defence to participate in the activities of the Partnership for Peace and the European Union, as well as the contribution of the Republic of Serbia to promotion of the regional security cooperation.

At the beginning of the Brussels Forum, State Secretary Aleksandar Nikolic met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajcak, and the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic.

During the talks with Lajcak, they confirmed quality of bilateral relations and mutually concluded that they are at a high level. They emphasized the rendered support to the Republic of Serbia in resolving all the outstanding issues. Lajcak invited the first Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic to participate in the Global Security Forum to be held in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, from 16 to 20 April 2013, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. The Global Security Forum is one of the most important fora to discuss the current global and regional issues related to international politics, economics and security. As such, it is an opportunity for participation in debates devoted to the future of Europe and the transatlantic role of the players in the Central and Southeastern Europe, as well as the opportunity for the realization of bilateral meetings at the highest level. Lajcak proposed a bilateral meeting with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic during the Global Security Forum.

During the talks with the Prime Minister of Montenegro Djukanovic, it was mutually agreed that there is room for improvement of bilateral cooperation in the field of defence. The meetings between the ministers of defence of the Republic of Serbia and Montenegro were initiated with the aim to consider the modalities for the promotion of cooperation in the field of defence.
