Minister Vucic in London

First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic have met today in London with Foreign Minister William Hague, as well as with members of the House of Lords, the EU Committee of the British Parliament.

Ministers Vucic and Haig discussed the European integration of Serbia, Kosovo and Metohija, judicial reform and the fight against corruption.

At the beginning of the talks, Vucic stressed the importance of creating the value system in Serbia that would contribute not only for Serbia to join the EU, but also to the change in the way of thinking.

The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of getting serious responsibilities for the Association of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers expressed their wishes that Serbia and the United Kingdom are reliable partners.

Minister Vucic met with members of the House of Lords EU Committee of the British Parliament.

At the beginning of the meeting Vucic introduces the representatives of the Parliament to the achievements that Serbia made in the last six months to meet the conditions for joining the EU.

“Serbia has made progress in talks with Pristina, judicial reform, the fight against corruption and crime. Nobody can deny our good political will to fulfil what we have promised”, Vucic said.

Chairperson of the EU Committee, Lord Boswell pointed out that it was the general feeling in London that Serbia has made real progress, and that it is confirmed by reports from Brussels.

“The accession of the Western Balkans to the EU is very important because this determines the stability of the region. It is a region that Europe must integrate and it must be done quickly”, said Lord Taverson.

The House of Lords is the main part of the British Parliament. Its committees deal with state policy, laws and government activities.

EU Committee was formed in 1974, a year after the UK joined the EU. They deal with reviewing the draft EU laws before they are harmonised in the European Union.

The Serbian delegation included also the Speaker of the National Assembly, Nebojsa Stefanovic.
