The second class of participants in Advanced Security and Defence Studies (ASDS) visited Brussels from 25 February to 1st March. The study tour was organized in the framework of implementation of the second module “Security and Defence”, which, among other things, addresses the topics related to international organizations and their operations. Staying in the Belgian capital enabled the participants to comprehend the scope and the current tasks of organizational entities of the EU and NATO responsible for the civilian and military aspects of security, and the role of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Serbia and the countries in the region working in Brussels.

At the headquarters of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the EU, the ASDS students were received by Nikola Lukic, Acting Ambassador of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the EU, Kristina Milosavljevic, Charge d'Affairs at the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to NATO, and Vesna Arsic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Belgium. They spoke about the organization, current tasks and work plans of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Serbia to Brussels, particularly focusing on the importance of the EU's decision on setting the date to start negotiations on membership of the Republic of Serbia to the EU, the current activities of the Republic of Serbia in the Partnership for Peace Programme, the results of economic cooperation between the Kingdom of Belgium and our country, and other important issues.

During their stay in Brussels, the ASDS participants visited the NATO Headquarters, the headquarters of the European External Action Service and the Military Academy of the Kingdom of Belgium.

One of the highlights during the visit to Brussels was a panel discussion, jointly organized by the Serbian Military Representation to NATO and the Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to NATO at the premises of the Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU. The panel was attended by Vladimir Drobnjak, Ambassador of Croatia to the European Union, Andrej Benedejcic, Slovenian Ambassador to NATO, and Branimir Jukic, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to NATO, who was in the role of facilitator.
