Cooperation with Slovenia

State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Nikolic has met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Belgrade Franc But. On that occasion they exchanged views on current foreign policy issues and the political and security situation in the region.

The State Secretary Aleksandar Nikolic thanked to the Republic of Slovenia for the support to Serbia on its European path and pointed out that because of the recognized and acknowledged results of the Government of the Republic of Serbia it is expected that we will get the starting date for negotiations with the EU. He stressed that professional engagement of a significant number of members of the armed forces of Slovenia in KFOR is very important for Serbia and expressed the hope that their number will not be reduced in the forthcoming period.

Nikolic informed Ambassador But about the process of defence reform and the priorities of the Ministry of Defence, particularly in the area of engagement in multinational operations.

Ambassador But conveyed that Slovenia perceives Serbia as a reliable partner in bilateral relations, with the desire to further enrich the cooperation with new areas, in accordance with mutual interests and abilities. One way to do this is the promotion of regional cooperation, having in mind common challenges and threats.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the established level of defence cooperation. A significant number of realised activities from the plans of bilateral military cooperation show continuity and upward trend in the cooperation. It was noted that there was a significant improvement in cooperation between the two countries in the field of military education. In 2013, the cooperation in the main areas will be continued – the exchange of experiences in the process of formation of NCO corps, cooperation between military archives, military educational institutions and the establishment of cooperation in the area of budget and finance, and the exchange of high-level visits is also expected.
