Meeting of the US-Serbia joint committee on defence system reforms



The seventh meeting of the US-Serbia Joint Commission issue of defense reform was held today in the Strategic Planning Department of Defense policy.

The meeting, led by Deputy Minister for Defence, Miroslav Jovanovic, president of the Joint Commission, was also attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, and the U.S. delegation, which included Professor Dr. Thomas Young of the Center for Civil-Military Relations, Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, California, Colonel Paul Broceni, U.S. Defence Representative in Belgrade and Lt. Sean Long, head of the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade.

Jovanovic acquainted the U.S. delegation with the results of the reform of the defense system, with special emphasis on the involvement of members of the Serbian Army in multinational operations under the UN and EU auspices in 2012 as well as the planned enlargement of MoD and SAF forces for 2013. The meeting focused on harmonization of the action plan for the fiscal 2013, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will conduct in cooperation with the Center for Civil-Military Relations, Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.

Professor Dr. Thomas Young said he was pleased with the cooperation and praised the commitment of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces demonstrated in current cooperation in areas supported by the Center for Civil-Military Relations, Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

Assistant Minister for Defence Policy, concluding the meeting, thanked the U.S. delegation for the support to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army, during the implementation of activities under the jurisdiction of the US-Serbia Joint Commission on issues of defense reform, during 2011 - 2013, stating he expected the cooperation to continue.
