The day of the University of Defence marked



In the Hose of Guard in Topcider a ceremony marking the Day of the University of Defence, the youngest of the higher military institutions started today. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, State Secretaries in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Nikolic and Zoran Djordjevic, the representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church and numerous guests.

Addressing the audience, the Chancellor of the University of Defence Lt. Gen. prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtic, said that the establishment of the higher military institutions has made a historic step forward in the further development of the profession, science and education in the Army, according to the highest standards.

- In just two years, the first, constituent stage has been completed, full coordination with higher education institutions has been established along with full harmonization of the higher education academic community with Serbia - said General Jevtic, adding that in the previous year 11 high-ranking military academic delegations from around the world have visited the iniversity, which is another testimony to the military education has become a recognizable brand in the Ministry of Defence of our country and the world.

He also pointed out that the University of Defence has 1084 students enrolled in three scientific fields, as well as four levels of training.

- A modern Serbian officer has to embody military honor and a creative force that will be the basis for continuous improvement in line with the imperatives of our time and advances in science of defense - said general Jevtic noting that University of Defense is entering the development stage, and that the draft Law on Education in Defense is one of its priority activities.

Following the ceremony, General Jevtic presented acknowledgments to the representatives of academic institutions that have in the past contributed to the operation of the Defense University.

The final part of the ceremony was enriched with chamber music quartet "Stanislav Binicki" with Oliver Njego and Nikola Rackova, as well as the representatives of the music section of the cadets of the Military Academy.

University of Defence in Belgrade was established by the Government of the Republic of Serbia on 24 February 2011.
