Minister Vucic in the Bundestag's EU Committee

At the moment First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Deputy Prime Minister Suzana Grubjesic are giving an expose before the Bundestag EU Committee.

Thanking the members of the Bundestag for the invitation, Deputy Vucic said Serbia expects two very important reports of the European Commission, which will be issued in April.

"A report will address the successes achieved in the dialogue between Belgrade - Pristina as well as progress in meeting the criteria for EU membership. Both reports are intended to convince the Council of Ministers that Serbia deserves to start accession negotiations with the EU in June 2013, "as Vucic stated.

He reminded the present that Serbia started its very difficult path towards the EU thirteen years ago. Not only did Srrbia have to start the painful economic reform and the rebuilding of its institutions, but also had to deal with very important political issues. The progress Serbia has made so far has been slow, leaving the citizens of Serbia disappointed and disillusioned because they came to believe that the accession to EU was a political question, not a question of progress and a better life.

"However, the current Serbian government did not wait until the last minute to do something. We started to work on the first day of this government’s mandate and have achieved significant results in meeting the requirements and criteria important for getting a date for accession to the EU, in just seven months, "said Vice President Vucic.
