Serbia-NATO Defence Reform Group meets



The regular meeting of the Serbia - NATO Defense Reform Group was held today at the Guards in Topcider. The meeting was led by Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic.

In addition to representatives of NATO, led by the Director of the NATO Force Planning Directorate, Frank Boland, as co-chairman of the Serbia - NATO Defense Reform Group, the meeting was attended by representatives of the NATO Military Liaison Office, foreign military representatives accredited to the Republic of Serbia, a representative of the Department for Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, as well as heads and deputy heads of working tables within the Serbia - NATO DRG.

At the meeting the activities of the working tables in the period October 2012 - January 2013 were presented. Both sides assessed the activities of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the previous period as very successful, which were implemented in the projects under the jurisdiction of the Serbia - NATO Defense Reform Group working tables.

Addressing the participants of the meeting, co-chairman of the Group, Frank Boland pointed out the significant progress in achieving the objectives of the partnership, in particular emphasizing the need to continue good cooperation with partner countries in support of achieving the objectives of the partnership of the Republic of Serbia, within the framework of the "Partnership for Peace". He emphasized the need to continue the efforts of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the Republic of Serbia to participate in the NATO initiative, "Building Integrity to reduce the risk of corruption, as well as capacity building to support the integration of gender equality in the defense system of the Republic of Serbia."

Concluding the meeting, co-chairman of the Group, Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Miroslav Jovanovic pointed the attention to the progress made in the MoD and SAF in achieving the partnership objectives as part of Republic of Serbia's participation in the "Partnership for Peace".

According to him, this progress can be seen in increased capacities of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for participation in multinational operations in 2013, under the auspices of the United Nations and the EU, the increasing number of bilateral cooperation activities at the global and regional level, the participation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army in projects, which ensure the stability of the defense system, and the qualitative and quantitative indicators of collaboration with the Ministry of Defence of the Government ministries, especially with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Deputy Minister for Defence thanked Frank Boland for his previous involvement and support in the process of achieving the objectives of the partnership within the jurisdiction of the Republic of Serbia and expressed hope that the realization of agreed forms of bilateral cooperation would contribute to further implementation of projects under the working tables, for the purpose of achieving the objectives of the partnership.
