Integrity building initiative



In the Department of Defense policy a working meeting with representatives of the NATO initiative to build integrity and reduce the level of corruption in defense was held today, and of the Institute of Comparative Law Center and the Defense Representative of Norway to the Republic of Serbia Colonel Esben Ass.

The meeting focused on discussion of definitions of a methodology for continued participation of the Ministry of Defence in the Integrity Building Initiative and harmonized forms of joint work aimed at identifying risk factors of corruption in the defense and the factors that may contribute to its reduction to a minimum. The Ministry of Defence has expressed a commitment to full transparency and willingness for experts from relevant organizational units to deal with each question, as well as his willingness to consider any form of cooperation that continue to be offered.

The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic, and it was also attended by representatives of the organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian authorities to build integrity and fight corruption.

Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia started taking part in the NATO partnership between the integrity of the building since December 2011 and as of December 2012 it started taking part in customized programs to build integrity that is realized through Defence Ministerial Process in South East Europe (SEDM).

In 2012 a self-assessment of the current situation of integrity and the presence of the risk of corruption in the defense system was conducted. Report on the self-assessment was published on the website of the Ministry of Defence while the NATO assessed officially described the approach as "an example Serbia's commitment to good practice that sends a strong message to other SEDM member states to increase transparency, accountability and integrity in the line of work of defense and security sector."
