Italian delegation visits Serbian MoD



The Delegation of Italian MoD headed by Vice Secretary for Defense Giuseppe Cossiga started a two-day visit to the Serbian Ministry of Defense upon the invitation of the Secretary of Serbian MoD Dusan Spasojevic.

During the meeting, both sides expressed pleasure with the reached level of cooperation between the two countries. The priority domains of cooperation stemming from the signed Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan, are the continuation of training of the members of special units, cooperation in military education and economy. Activities which are part of the Italian donation in the form of equipment for defusing “Car Konstantin” airport and the training of our teams for defusing ordnance will be realized.

State Secretary Spasojevic expressed great pleasure at having been given an opportunity during the talks with Vice Secretary Cossiga to be assured once again of the readiness for successful continuation of cooperation, which could be described as the generator of 130-year long history of bilateral relations between the two countries.

In his statement to TANJUG news agency, Spasojevic stated that such a level of cooperation represented a significant contribution to regional stability, adding that both MoD and SAF were participating in all important regional initiatives, having established a very successful cooperation with the Italian MoD and Army.

In his consideration of the issues pertaining to the political-security situation in the region, Spasojevic listed the basics of State Policy when it comes to the most challenging security problems, the current situation in the Serbian southern province of Kosovo. Vice Secretary Cossiga stressed that the Italian contingent in KFOR would stay in Kosovo in order to preserve security of both Serbian and other non-Albanian population and Serbian in holy places in GSZ.

On the second day of his visit, Vice Secretary Cossiga will give a lecture in the organization of the Strategic Research Institute along with a planned meeting with the Chief of Serbian GS LTG Miloje Miletic.
