New flats for members of the defence system



Assistant Minister for Material Resources Jasminka Todorov, on behalf of the Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vucic, presented keys 22 newly built apartments at the site of the former barracks "Vojvoda Stepa Stepanovic" in Belgrade to active and retired members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

On the occasion, Assistant Minister Todorov congratulated to all those who today received the keys to the apartments wishing them and their families to enjoy their new flats as long as possible.

According to the head of the Department for Infrastructure, of the Material Resources Sector Colonel Milan Sladoja, the committee will together with new flat owners visit and receive the keys to buildings 4B, 4E and 4Z.

Three bedroom apartment on the first floor today was for the first time unlocked by the new owner, Tomislav Jovanovic, warrant officer first class in retirement.
Since the arrival from Sarajevo, more than 21 years ago, I have lived in collective centers and barracks, which was very difficult for the whole family. In the new year we have entered a new apartment, where we, my wife and I will live with my son and daughter, and now we shall have to resolve the "sweet problem" of furniture- Jovanovic says.

The Ministry of Defence and the SAF have so far managed to provide housing for 114 families of active and retired members in the "Stepa Stepanovic". At the site of the former barracks, spanning 42 hectares of land residential and commercial complex with 4616 flats, 156 shops, 1430 spaces to rent and 3300 open parking spaces are currently being built. Ministry of Defence owns 21 percent of the total area which will be used for accommodating members of the Serbian Armed Forces.
