Session of the Security Council for Traffic Safety of military personnel



The second session of the Security Council for Traffic Safety of military personnel in 2012 was held today at the Directorate of General Logistics Department of Material Resources Sector, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia. The session was chaired by the head of the Department of Traffic and Transportation of the General Logistics Col. doc. Dr. Zeljko Rankovic.

Furthermore it was attended by Council members - representatives of units and institutions of the MoD and SAF, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Agency for Traffic Safety of Republic of Serbia, Traffic Engineering, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Engineering, University of Novi Sad. Council members on behalf of the General Logistics Department were welcomed the Chief of the Department Brigadier General Dr. Srdjan Novakovic.

In addition to analysis of the traffic safety situation in the Republic of Serbia and the security analysis of military participants in traffic in 2012, the experiences from the XI Congress of the European Committee for Traffic Safety in the armed forces were shared while the plan for 2013 was also defined.

2012 was marked by fewer accidents in military vehicles compared to last year, and the consequences were less severe. Each traffic accident occurred average at 250 thousand kilometers, one injured at every 820 thousand kilometers, and there were no fatalities.

Members of the Council concluded that in 2013 a security strategy of military participants in traffic for the period 2013-2017 should be adopted along with launching a campaign to improve the safety of military road users, especially aimed at the population of professional soldiers drivers in Mod and SAF, as well as to develop a model for providing legal and technical assistance to military traffic road users, which would be submitted to the Minister of Defence for review and approval.
