MMA chief's reception for journalists



At the Military Medical Academy on occasion of a New Year's reception for journalists. On this occasion, Chief of the Military Medical Academy, Brigadier General prof. Marian Novakovic, MD, said that during this year the MMA had carried out about 50 percent more outpatient examinations and all diagnostic procedures than last year, with the number of ambulance operations, or operations performed daily also increasing.

Virtually each clinic or an institute has seen progress in terms of training and treatment, not new surgical techniques were introduced, the treatment and diagnosis were also improved, as well as the institutes in preventive medicine. MMA’s priority task is to follow all the news in the treatment and diagnosis, and to implement them as soon as possible in our patients - said General Novakovic at the reception.

The numbers show that, by the end of September this year, some 390,323 patients were examined in a specialized clinic, performing 4.5 lab analyses and 18,535 surgeries. 25,026 patients were hospitalized, 17,329 of whom were civilians with civilian medical insurance. Availability of hospital beds was 71.72 percent. In the same period, there were 15,146 blood donors.

These days we are marking the tenth anniversary of starting with signing donor cards. Now there are 80,000. This year at the VMA's 29 kidney transplants were performed, with the number of cadaver transplants on the rise, a trend in the world. Furthermore, there have been two liver transplants.

When it comes to education, the MMA has admitted 25 doctors from civilian sector, who will start their specialization course here, as well as a number of military doctors. In this institution not a day goes by or a week without course, symposia, conferences, and the international cooperation was very fruitful too.

Chief of the MMA stated at the reception that plans for the coming year include modernization and advancement of knowledge and technology. This is a continuous task of this institution.
