Minister Vucic in Washington



First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic met in Washington with U.S. Deputy Director of Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) David Shedd. The theme of the meeting was cooperation between the two countries, as well as improvement of the cooperation between the intelligence services of the USA and Serbia.

Minister Vucic was welcomed in Pentagon with full state honours greeted, where he met with U.S. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta.

During the meeting, Minister Vucic and Secretary Panetta have agreed that the level of bilateral military cooperation between the two countries is high, especially in the field of military education. Vucic thanked to his U.S. counterpart for their financial and technical support to the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as on projects of humanitarian assistance. At the same time, Serbia needs professional and financial support for the development of the "South" Base, as well as further education and advancement of the Serbian Armed Forces members in the territory of the United States.

Minister Vucic asked from Secretary Panetta that KFOR troops do not withdraw from Kosovo and Metohija, because the Serbian population there has no confidence in the Interim Kosovo Institutions.

Secretary Panetta expressed his satisfaction with the military cooperation with Serbia and promised assistance and support to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. He stressed that he will pledge at the NATO Council in February next year, for the U.S. troops to remain within the KFOR.

During the meeting, both sides expressed the desire to enhance the relations between the U.S.A. and Serbia.
