Meeting with the agency UN women



In the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Agency for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women - UN Women, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, met with the agency the UN Women yesterday.

The meeting, where the delegation the Ministry of Defence, represented by members of the Strategic Planning and Research Institute for Strategic Policy Sector of Defense, headed by Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic.
UN Women Agency delegation was headed by Edwin Berry, regional manager of "Improving the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Western Balkans", project, Asja Verbano, program manager of the UN Agency for Women and the Republic of Serbia, Zorica Skakun, national programs and agencies coordinator.

The meeting was realized in order to exchange information on the results achieved in the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 of the United Nations - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence, as well as identifying areas of common action in the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding, which will be future signed between representatives of UN agencies and women Serbian Ministry of Defence.

Expressing gratitude for the support of the Agency in the implementation of the activities envisaged under the National Action Plan for the implementation of Resolution 1325 of the Security Council of the United Nations in Serbia - Women, Peace and Security (2010-2015), Deputy Minister for Defence Miroslav Jovanovic pointed out remarkable results that the Ministry of Defence accomplished in this area.

On this occasion Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic’s position was reiterated regarding the role of women in defense system of Serbia, as given realization of jobs and tasks that women perform in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as the role that women play in the society of the Republic of Serbia, special attention for creating optimal conditions for living and working of women should be paid to in the future.

During the talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the development of the cooperation and shared commitment to future co-operation so as to improve the engagement of available capacities of UN Women Agency in support of the implementation of activities of the Ministry of Defense in implementing the NAP for the implementation of Resolution 1325.

Emphasizing the achievements of past cooperation, Barry also expressed hope that the UN Women agency to the end of 2013. The majority of the activities envisaged regional project implemented by government in the Republic of Serbia.

It is expected that the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defence and Women UN agencies, contribute to the implementation of specific activity and further fruitful cooperation in the future.
