River 2012 Joint Exercise commences



Serbian Armed Forces, Department for Emergency Operations in the MoI, Serbian Red Cross and Mountain Rescue Service have been conducting joint exercise "River 2012" on 22 to 25 October.

The exercise, which is conducted at 48 locations across Serbia, involves about 1,300 people.

Head of the exercise is Major General Goran Radovanovic and the commander of the exercise is Colonel Sasa Stefanovic.

The overall objective of the exercise is teaching and training commands and units for planning operations for rendering support to civilian authorities in fighting unarmed security threats; commanding forces in the operation, coordination of activities with the forces of the Sector for Emergency Situations, the Serbian Red Cross and Mountain Rescue Service and the preparation and execution of joint operations from the domain of the third mission of the Serbian Armed Forces and inform the public about the achieved level of training.

On Thursday, 25 October, near Titel, a Distinguished Visitors Day is to be organized when the state management, foreign military representatives, the media and the citizens will be introduced to a part of the capabilities of the participants in the exercise regarding the ability to protect and rescue the population from the consequences of the accidents caused by the floods. The Distinguished Visitors Day is going to engage also the members of the Gendarmerie and the helicopter unit of the MoI.
