57th International Belgrade Book Fair opened
"We live next to each other, let's be important to each other" – said a young Hungarian writer Noémi Szécsi at the opening ceremony of the 57th International Book Fair in Belgrade. This year's fair, under the slogan "From A to Z", was opened by one of the most important poets of modern Serbian poetry Radmila Lazic, who said that art is more durable than the state, the civilization or any nation.Novelty compared to the last year's event is that the event will last a day longer, more accurate to 28 October. The fair brought together about 800 participants - 500 publishers, including 60 from abroad.
Apart from Hungary, the country which is the guest of honor, this year's Book Fair will feature publishers from the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Porugal, Slovakia, Japan, China, Russia, Belarus, Iran, Brazil, Angola, Croatia, Bulgaria , Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
"Odbrana" Media Centre is taking part in this year's Book Fair again. The booth is recognisable by the symbols of the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces and "Odbrana" MC. Publishing activities of the "Odbrana" MC and twenty new titles will be presented at the fair, seven of which will be promoted at the fair booth. Promotions will be organized every day from 22nd to 27th October at17 o’clock, with the participation of authors, reviewers, and other promoters. The Book Fair will be the finale of the "Month of Book" campaign ending on 28th October at15.00, by drawing prize winners in the contest which involved buyers of "Odbrana" MC publications. The campaign began on 1st October in the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces, in the "Vojna knjiga" bookshop and at the the MC "Odbrana" MC booth at the Book Fair.
A special segment of the fair performance is a contribution to marking 100 years of Serbian military aviation, so a part of the booth is specially arranged for the promotion of that Jubilee. On Monday, 22 October there was announced the promotion of the book "Eagle – view from the Yugoslav standpoint" by Aleksandar Radic.
